My Story
I "graduated" from MHS the same year you did when I moved to Ely as the athletic director. That lasted four years as I left education, went into the insurance business and moved the family to Grand Rapids after our house burned to the ground on January 30,1978. Sue worked as a Nursing Instructor at our local community college, retiring as the director of the program in 2002. We raised our three boys there, we were fortunate that they were all gifted students and athletes. All three All-conference football players, as well as hockey players. They all played Division I hockey, Kurt at the Air Force Academy, Jon at UMD, and Todd at Miami of Ohio. Jon and Todd played professionally for a few years before coming back to the home area.
I am enjoying retirement, Sue & I spent winters in Texas and did a lot of travelling before she died. Now, I am just enjoying grandkids and families.
I am now living in The Pillars of Grand Rapids, a retirement community, which I understand is similar to one in Mankato.
Not sure if any of you are High School Hockey fans, but wondering if any of you might have noticed that there was a Rohloff from Grand Rapids in the State Tourney. Luka is my Grandson and will be a Sr. this year. Has attracted a lot of attention from various scouts for playing at a high level.
A couple of important events in my life have happened in the few months. I became great father on Sept.17. I got married on November 29th. Janelle is high school classmate that lost her husband several years ago. We were just friends in HS, sang in choir and an operetta together. We had a class reunion a little over 2 years ago and reconnected. Neither of us was looking for it, It just found us! She is a music major, having taught music in the Elk River school system and directing her church and community choirs.
I love to hear from you!! Dick
